Julia Leach is the LA-based co-founder and creative director of Sublime who reaches for Hemingway on holidays

At Summer Stories, we've asked our favourite changemakers for their best summer read, like Julia Leach, creative director of Sublime. 
What's your favourite beach read? The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
Where were you when you read it? Enjoying two weeks between Guéthary, France, and San Sebastián, Spain.
What was going on with you at the time? In love with a writer, which is not always easy, but deeply meaningful in terms deep connection, passion, and inspiration.
How did the novel make you feel? Transported and beguiled.
Tell us about Sublime - how did it come to be? I met my partner while we were both executive creative directors working on Apple's brand marketing team. We found we shared a strong interest in innovation, design, technology, and culture. After doing several projects together that focused on collaborating with founders and CEOs, showing them what's possible for their brands and bringing the vision to life, we decided to form a consultancy with this specialty. We're particularly geared towards helping businesses and brands that are making a difference in the world realize their potential through strategy, creative ideas, and importantly, execution.
What are you working on at the moment? We have projects in the fashion, gaming, food & beverage, and technology spaces in the works, all categories we're excited about.
Tell us about a favourite recent project? I'm in the midst of creative directing a fashion and personal style game that is being designed by girls for girls. It's exciting because it upends typical tropes of the gaming world and will inspire young women to express their own creative voice.
