Vogel Award winner Belinda Castles on Min Jin Lee's Pachinko

At Summer Stories, we've asked our favourite authors and changemakers for their best summer story. We got in touch with Belinda Castles. She's the award-winning author of Bluebottle, Hannah and Emil and The River Baptists. Belinda lives in Sydney and each summer likes to disappear down the coast with a stack of brilliant novels.

So Belinda, tell us what you read last summer.

“Last summer I read Pachinko by Min Jin Lee on our family holiday to the South Coast of New South Wales. While the kids dug holes and built sand sculptures, I lay in a sun shelter and read about a Korean family’s experience of terrible hardship and prejudice in Japan over the course of the twentieth century. It’s an absolutely gripping story of resilience and courage, and a very moving way to spend the best reading days of the year.”

Thanks Belinda, we can't wait to read this one too.
